Anybody been on any good road trips lately. If so, where did you go and what type of road/terrain was it (mountain, narrow, windy, freeway, etc.) Thanks.

We have several cruises coming up for the club. We did Payson last month. Mount Lemmon is the end of July, Jerome coming up in August and September we will hit the Devils Highway. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the reply.  All of these scheduled runs sound like fun, especially those I haven't run yet.

Here's what I did this past week. I don't see anywhere where roads are rated in any way, or what the ratings would include.  So I'll just use my personal rating on those I've driven, and on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the most challenging and fun for a sports car.

Thursday, left home by 8:30 a.m., Florence Junction to Show Low through the Salt River Canyon (Five star) this one is a must-do if you haven't run it yet.  The canyon is very narrow, steep climbs, and very sharp curves.  Lots of passing zones. This run is not very accommodating as a one day up and back, unless you turn around at Carrizo.
So I stayed at a rustic cabin in Pinetop, it's a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, with a loft.  It's big enough for many combinations of 3 couples and singles, probably 3 adults or 5 kids in the loft, I've also slept on the sofa in the living room more times than I care to count.  The cabin sits on an acre lot and tents would be OK also. I spent Wednesday and Thursday nights there.
Thursday morning I drove from the cabin near the Honda Casino, through McNary past Big Lake past Greer to Eager, then on to Alpine and up to Hannigan Meadow.  There I made a quick U-turn to head back.  This section I'd give a 4, I encountered a light rain in both directions between Eager and Alpine which was fun and another dynamic to the drive.  Coming back into Alpine I made the turn to go east 7 miles to Luna, N.M.  This section was fun, windy road, moderate changes in elevation but very scenic.  Luna's a one horse town but glad I did it since it was all new to me.  This section I would rate a 3.5, short, fun, scenic.

Next, back to Alpine, through Springerville for lunch (only a mile or two from Eager).  The trip back from Eager to the cabin was fun, very relaxing and scenic, I'd probably give it a 2.5 since it's not very challenging compared to the other roads but still fun to drive especially with very light traffic.

Friday morning I cleaned up the cabin then headed out and was on the road by 8 a.m., through Pinetop/Lakeside, Show Low and again, the best part of this whole trip is the section between Carrizo, through the Salt River Canyon to Globe.  The section from Miami to Superior can be a real blast depending on traffic.  They have passing lanes in most sections now to keep traffic moving.   AND, going during the week is a huge plus compared to what I've seen on the weekends.  This was a great 3-day drive and was a long needed stress relief from the heat here in the valley.

Looking forward to some cruises when we get there. I will have to go solo on the Devil's Highway trip as the wife does not like those kind of roads. I did a run once when I lived out in NM. Drove from Alamogordo, to Deming to Alpine via Silver City, to Lordsburg and back to Alamogordo. That was a long day. I miss roads like that living here in FL. That is one of the reasons I am moving back out west.
